Feel Good Friday
Good morning! Yes, of course, we can extend the "Creation Box" side-challenge a week. I'm excited so many of you are doing it! For this weekend, try this for an addition your box:
"I am once again reminded of the power of our words. The power of our thought process. The power of our vision for the future. I believe we need to be constantly aware of our thoughts. Negative thoughts are so easy to hold on to. Once a negative thought enters your mind the first step is to "be aware". The second step is to make a decision to change it. I read once the minute you become aware of your negative focus you should say out loud, " STOP." Once you start to use the word stop each time you begin to speak negatively then you will be more aware of the thoughts.
Again, changing the internal dialogue is key. Start using milder words. Have you ever noticed that in a hospital that many times they use the word "discomfort" instead of pain? If you are angry with someone use the word disenchanted. You can also just use the word annoyed. It has much less power than anger.
Also, we need to change our self limiting statements. I hear so many people use the word "impossible." The next time you catch yourself saying that something is impossible just STOP. Start asking questions instead of making statements. "How is this possible?" "How can I handle this?"
This seems like such a simple task, changing our self defeating language. However, we have allowed the negative language to become a part of our lives. It is a habit and it's time for us to change it.
I challenge you to really make a commitment to monitor your language and thoughts this week. Make a choice to "pay attention" to what you are thinking and speaking. If you need to have an "attitude" partner this week, get one. Listen to each other and when you hear a negative word then work together to create a positive word to replace it."
Don't limit yourself! Over this weekend, think about your goals. Think about why you want to achieve them. Think about them in light of the fact that you're going to hit them. That it's not a question of "if." It's real. It's going to happen. You will have the life within your boxes/jars.
Love you, girls! Have a fabulous weekend!

Amy I forgot to say this to you yesterday, but I COMPLETELY understand where you're coming from with working out with your kids around. I have a really hard time as well. It wasn't until my husband was more on board with my goals and took that time to stay with the kids that I've started to really ENJOY my workouts. I absolutely love my workouts and am not ashamed to admit that it is 90% because I am alone without them. I love them to death, but I have really needed that alone time. I love being active with them as well, but that alone time is priceless. I'm a better mom and wife because of it! Until you have that alone time as a regularly scheduled time, hang in there, I know it's hard! Yesterday I was trying to do my sit ups etc. and I had the baby trying to get on my back, my three year old crawling under me and my 4 year old trying to hold the timer and "help" me. My six year old was holding the weights and copying what I'd done while I just cringed hoping they didn't fall on his toes. Yeah it was stressful. I finally gave up and had to finish later. I may have to lock myself in a room next time. :) Hang in there! We can do this ladies, just don't give up and find a solution each time a new problem creeps up! Good luck this weekend surrounded by candy candy candy candy ladies!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHey all... I'm a blog stalker that once belonged to 10-in-6 but got pregnant with #5. Well, I'm due in 11 days and will be joining you at your next start-up point in a couple weeks.
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about toxic friends. I have some. At times I even am one. If we all eliminate toxic friends, who will befriend those people. I'm having a hard time understanding how you protect yourself while still being a kind, loving person. Some of the most toxic people are simply permanently depressed. So how do you help them without hurting yourself?
I think this is a difficult question only because we are putting other people in front of our own needs. There is a difference between someone who is down for a couple of days or is consistently down. We all have off days or are struggling for a time. You have to ask yourself after being with someone did they bring me down?? Is this how I always feel after talking to this person?? We can not change other people! Yes be kind to them but not at your expense! If I am struggling I choose to limit my contact with people especially certain family members. When I feel stronger I then can reach out to others that I feel I can help and/or tolerate. Be kind and loving but only to the point you are emotionally and spiritually able. We can only help those who want to change. I hope this helps. I am sure others may be able to explain it better.
ReplyDeleteI know I need to be more aware of my own negativity and make an effort to change it. While on my period I am really struggling but hoping next week will be better. I will choose to challenge my excuses!! Be strong! Be aware!
As I said yesterday, I have had a lot of experience with trying to decrease my interaction with toxic people over the last year. I'd like to explain a little of what I have experienced, because don't feel like I have been unkind. My biggest challenge has actually been with my Mom.
ReplyDeleteTo begin with, I had a lot of not so positive friends, especially those at work. I do believe that some of them struggle with depression, but so do I. I have chosen to get help and work independently to improve my attitude so that I am no longer toxic. With those that are open, I have encouraged them to be aware of how they speak to others and what they are saying. This can be a touchy conversation, but if you do it with love and kindness it can be done. With the friends that are not open to seeing how life can be better with a better attitude, I still talk with them when I see them and would help them at the drop of a hat, but I don't seek out personal time with them.
My relationship with my Mom this year has been very challenging. We have always butted heads. In January, she said a few things that pushed me over the edge. At 35 years old, I decided that I did not need her unsolicited advice on my weight, my work schedule, and many other things that were non of her business. The details are to long to go into here. What it came down to was, I need her to speak to me with the same respect she would show one of her friends. She did not realize the how much the comments and opinions she freely shared hurt me, and I couldn't take it any more.
Our relationship has changed, and it is still a work in progress. I know that ultimately our relationship will be closer and stronger.
This had not been an easy year, but I feel like the relationship I have now are stronger. I am a better friend, and a more positive person.
I set my goals, I challenge my excuses and choose to be successful!!!
I've also found that our internal dialogue that is going on while we're around toxic family/friends is important. If we're careful to not join in on complaining, gossiping, arguing, then we can often divert the conversation a bit. This doesn't always work, but the idea is to be a positive influence anyway so that you're not dragged down by whatever that person is annoyed at in the moment. Good luck everyone. I know I feel better when I'm around more positive people! Amy, good for you in taking such a huge stance on what's going on with you and your mom. It's REALLY hard when our negative influences and coming from those we love the most. And for the record, you're always so happy and up beat when we chat, that you are definitely one of those I think of when pondering those positive people in my life. You're a great neighbor!
ReplyDeleteThanks Amy & Abrey. Amy... wow! I have work to do with my Mom, too. I'm excited just to be more aware of positive/negative attitudes.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad it's Friday but I am also very stressed about this weekend and this upcoming week. I have had such a crazy week and I am still running on fumes! I started off the week good but then with all this running around and all of the Halloween parties, the rest of the week hasn't been so good. I think that is what I need help with most is how to eat good when I have so much to do. I found myself not eating at all because I just didn't have time which is not a good idea and then this weekend I am worried about not doing very good because of all the tempting Halloween candy and then I have family in town for the next week and what do we do when we have family gatherings...we eat and not very healthy I might add. How do you ladies cope with weeks like that and with the holidays. HELP!!! Sarah thanks for extending the "creation box" that will help alot. I have been gathering stuff but haven't decorated my box yet so thank you! I agree with everything you guys have said about being around toxic people and for me I have found that if I can just put myself in their shoes and find out what makes them think that way or act that way then it helps me to understand them better and to not judge them but to just love them for where they are in their lives but at the same time to be careful not to be dragged down or caught up in all the "drama". There is definitely a happy medium and we all know our limits. Well I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and I am so happy to be apart of this group. I am learning so much for everyone! Happy Halloween!
